Objects can often be hidden away, stored, or even forgotten about. In Les Neuf Audio-Able, I wanted to express the voice of these silenced instrumental qualities that can be found within the objects around us.
In this piece, I used a total of nine different objects. I separated them into groups of three depending on their register: high, medium, or low. Within each register, a harmonic, inharmonic, and continuous spectrum type sound is used. The following objects I used were all collected from my work desk: A tuning fork, a DVD disk, hand sanitizer, a hard disk drive, bubble wrap, a digital camera, a book, and an air mattress pump.
The objects transform through a sound continuum. Starting as real source audio samples, they eventually become hyper-real before reaching a synthetic state. The progression of each sound through the causal continuum occurs at different times during any of the three movements for each object. Sound processing and design is achieved through the use of the GRM Tools Shuffling, Pitch Accum, Reson, Doppler FreqWarp, and FreqShift.
